This burger is about as healthy as a burger can possibly be! Please feel free to use whatever meat you prefer… I like to use ground turkey for this recipe just to switch my proteins up a bit. Ground chicken or beef would totally work too. Serve this with your favorite side and gobble it up! I ALWAYS serve it with sweet potato fries. I LOVE SWEET POTATO FRIES. LOVE them. I could eat them every single day.
Here’s my Open-Face Turkey Burger:
Yields: 4 – 6 burgers (depending on how big you make your burgers)
2 lbs ground turkey (I buy the hormone free, antibiotic free, vegetarian diet fed, and all natural kind)
1-2 tsp garlic powder
1-2 tsp onion powder
1-2 tsp paprika
1-2 tsp cumin
2 tbsp olive oil (this will keep the turkey super moist)
salt and pepper to taste
boston or bibb lettuce
your favorite burger veggies and condiments (I served tomatoes, grilled onions, avocado, and a homemade honey mustard.)
1. Grab a big bowl and add your meat and seasonings to it. Mix it up with your hands really well. I like to make a small patty (bite size) and pan fry it just to see if my seasonings are good. That’s totally up to you.
2. Make as many patties as you see fit… Grill them, smoke them, or throw them on a grill pan inside and cook away! I cooked these inside tonight. I got the pan pretty hot (medium-high heat), spray the pan with nonstick spray, and cook until they reach an internal temperature of 165 degrees.
3. To keep this a Paleo dish, I served my burgers open-face on top of some boston lettuce. I drizzled a homemade honey mustard on top, and added my favorite toppings! If you want the bun, by all means, eat it on a bun! Otherwise, get out your knife and fork 🙂
